The above fire firemen died in action fighting a blaze in the MacDonald Brothers crockery warehouse at 240 1st (Marquette) Avenue South. They were in an alley deside the building setting up lines and opening iron shutters on windows when an immense backdraft blew out the wall and buried them in debris. Thier deaths remain the highest life loss suffered by firefighters at any single fire in the city's history.
