Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day

This year marks the second Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. Senate File 237 was passed in the Minnesota Senate on March 9, 2009 by a vote of 62 to 0. It was then passed in the Minnesota House on May 12, 2009 by a vote of 133 to 0. On May 15, 2009 at 11:48 a.m., Governor Tim Pawlenty signed the bill into law.

The text of the bill is simple. It reads, "Designating the first Sunday in October as Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day, requiring flags to be flown at half staff."

Watch for a press release and other information to fly the flags at half-staff. Governor Pawlenty should be issuing a proclamation about the day and the flags.
